[Ukraine] Ornek — Crimean Tatar ornament
oksaaanka
Ornek is a traditional ornament of the Crimean Tatars, an indigenous people of the Crimean Peninsula. The patterns contain encrypted symbols of life: a rose means a married woman, a tulip means a young man, an almond means a girl, and a carnation means wisdom. It is not just a decoration, but a way to pass on memories and values from generation to generation. In 2021, ornek was added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
After the deportation of 1944 and the new annexation of Crimea by russia in 2014, the Crimean Tatars are once again facing oppression. Despite this, ornek remains a symbol of resilience, dignity and the right of a people to their own culture and land.
This stamp is a tribute to the Crimean Tatar heritage and a reminder of its indestructibility.
