[Ukraine] Borscht

1) this is a misspelling due to the Jews who first introduced this dish to the USA citizens. The name must be transliterated from the Ukrainian language and without a letter "t" the end
2) it is not really an important or popular dish. I am sad and ashamed that when foreigners are told about Ukraine, our people talking about lard, borsch, horilka, vyshyvanka... These are Russian imperial "image" that depict Ukrainians as stupid villagers who only know how to eat and drink.

LordFaust 1) not only without "t" at the end. But also with an "h" after "s". The outcome should be "borshch".
2) to say that this statement of yours is a strech of imagination would be a gross understatement. "Borshch", in fact, IS an important and famous dish in Ukraine. The one, we fight for, constantly (i.e. managing to register it as Ukraine's intangible legacy in UNESCO), because russians always try to claim it as their own - something you would know, if you actually paid attention. You should be sad and ashamed of mental gymnastics, you just performed, because I fail to understand how salo, borshch, horilka and vyshyvanka - literal representation of our culture - is an imperial image of us, created by russians.
LordFaust
Guy Backwards 1) yes
2) you need to urgently consult a psychiatrist, an ophthalmologist and take a history course. I am 99.9% sure that you are a Russian-speaking who just has a Ukrainian passport. When you were listening to Russian songs on a Russian version of Windows on a PC filled with Russian movies, I was running a nationalist organization. And popularity of borshch is as true as the myth that Italians eat pizza and pasta every day.

LordFaust see, I would. Like I totally would, but then again only a fool would take an advice from the individual, who is convinced, that a dish created BY Ukrainians, FOR Ukrainians is a part of Russian imperial image. Guess, all those years of running a nationalist org was in vain. Pity.
As of Italians, I don't know if they eat pizza and pasta every day. I personally has never claimed, that Ukrainians consume borshch or salo or whatever on a daily basis.
Now, if you see Ukrainians, talking about borshch, and first thought, that comes to your mind is "stupid villagers who only know how to eat and drink", then it is probably you, who needs some self-reflection and a walk, down the history lane.
Annushka...
