[Sri Lanka] Sri Lankan tea pluckers
Udi96
Sri Lankan tea pluckers are the hardworking men and women, most often women, who carefully handpick the tender leaves that make the country’s world famous 'Ceylon tea'. Found mainly in the central highlands around Nuwara Eliya, Hatton, and Ella, these tea pluckers skillfully gather the top two leaves and a bud from each plant, ensuring the finest quality for production. Dressed in colorful saris and carrying large baskets, they work on the steep slopes of lush green plantations. Their dedication and precision form the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea industry, which is a vital part of the nation’s culture, economy, and global identity.
