Slovenské národné povstanie (Slovak National Uprising) was a military uprising organized by the Slovak resistance movement during World War II in central Slovakia. It started on August 29, 1944, as a reaction to the entry of German occupying forces into the territory of the Slovak Republic. The political goal of the uprising was to remove the regime of the Hlinka Slovak People's Party and to incorporate Slovakia into the restored Czechoslovak Republic. The resistance movement was mainly represented by members of the Democratic Party, social democrats, and communists, although on a smaller scale.
