Jánošík, whose full name was Juraj Jánošík, was a Slovak legendary figure known as a famous highwayman or thief. He was born on January 25, 1688, and died on March 17, 1713. Jánošík has become the main character of many Slovak novels, poems, and films, and is considered a national hero in Slovakia.
