With a history of 3,200 years, Iran has experienced many empires and governments, most of which had a unique flag for themselves:
●Before the Median era: In the archaeological excavations of a cemetery in Shahdad, Kerman province, which was carried out in 1350 A.H., a bronze door was found, which became known as "Shahdad door" and is a sign of the late use of door in Iran.
●Median era: The kingdom of the Medes was an Iranian government that initially ruled only in the Medes' settlement area in the northwest of Iran and then over most of the Iranian plateau. The flag of this government was red with the Fer Kiani symbol in the middle
●Achaemenid Empire era: The flag of the Achaemenid era was most likely a Shahbaz with open wings with a solar disc behind his head. Darfash Shahbaz Parse is related to the Iranian traditions contained in the Avesta about the relationship between the Varghena bird and Farah.
●Parthian empire era: The Parthian flag was decorated with the sun. Also, the thousand units of the Parthian army had a silk flag with a dragon emblem. Although the Swedish historian Stig Vikander[b] has given reasons that "Darfesh Kaviani" was also the national flag of Iran during the Parthian period.
●Sassanied Empire era: The Sasanian flag was called "Darfesh Kaviani". The reference to Darfesh Kaviani in Iranian mythology goes back to Kaveh Ahangar's uprising against the oppression of Azhidhak (Zahhak). Darfesh Kaviani was also called "Jamshid sign" and "Ferydoun sign". During the Arab attack on Iran, in the battle of Qadisiyah, Kavyani's jewel fell into the hands of the Arabs, and when they took it to Umar bin Khattab - the Caliph of the Muslims - he ordered to remove its gems and burn it.
●Saffarid dynasty era: The Saffarians were an Iranian dynasty that ruled over Afghanistan and parts of present-day Iran, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. Their capital was the city of Zaranj. They considered themselves as descendants of the Sasanians. Their flag was green and white.
●Samanid era: The Samanids were a dynasty of Iranian rulers and rulers of the Sunni religion that ruled over large parts of Trans-Nahr for about two centuries under the seal and leadership of the Abbasid caliphs. Their flag was black with a white pattern in the middle
●Ghaznavid dynasty era:The Ghaznavid dynasty or the Ghaznavids was a Turkic, Persian-speaking and Muslim dynasty in the eastern parts of Great Iran, especially Fararud and Great Khorasan. According to some sources, the flag of Iran at this time was a satellite and had a yellow circle in the middle.
●Seljuk empire era: The Seljuk Empire was a Turkic, Persian-speaking government with Turkish-Iranian culture and Sunni religion, which was founded by the Qaniq tribe of the Oghuz Turks. The flag of this government had a white double-headed eagle on a light blue background.
●Saffavid Empire era:The Safavid dynasty was one of the largest empires in Iran after the Arab invasion, which was ruled by the Safavid dynasty from 1501 to 1736. The Safavid Empire is often referred to as the beginning of modern Iranian history. The flag of this dynasty is green, which originally had a lamb with the sun in the middle, which later changed to a lion and the sun.
● Afsharid era: Afsharians were a dynasty of Iranian Turkic origin that lived between 1114 and 1129 AH in the middle of the 18th century. He ruled Iran. The flag of this government was triangular and had three colors: red, white and blue.
●Zandiyeh era: The Zandiyehs or Zandiyeh were one of the dynasties of Iranian origin that ruled Iran for 45 years after the collapse of the Afshari government and until the rise of the Qajar dynasty. The flag of this government was a white triangle with a green stripe in the corner and the symbol of lion and sun in the middle.
●Qajar era: Qajar Iran is a nickname that refers to a 130-year period in the history of Iran under the rule of the Qajar dynasty. The official names of Iran in this period were the State of Iran and the Enclosed Countries of Iran, and in the western world, as in previous periods, Iran was referred to as Persia, Perse. The flag of this government was originally a white rectangle with three-colored corners, and it was changed to three colors of green, white, and red with the symbol of lion and sun.
●Pahlavi dynasty era: The flag of Iran in this period was also the same as the Qajar period, but the symbol of the lion and the lion was modernized.
