[India] Removal of Colonial Stamps
P
Pulkit Mohta
The current location stamps of India available on SLOWLY are:
- Lotus Temple
- Gateway of India
- Jama Masjid
- Taj Mahal
- Humayun's Tomb
Except for the first one, all the monuments were built by either a foreign invader or Colonial British, with no use to the people and with no use of Indian architecture. If removal of existing stamps is not possible, It would be very appreciated if indigenous monuments /landmarks that display India's ancient glory properly, are used for stamps. The following links have images of such monuments for stamp suggestions:
I hope that SLOWLY team will come out with new stammps depicting Indian architecture, if not removing existing stamps.

Now, the SLOWLY team can even add the Ram Mandir as of the stamps for India, as it is the representative of modern Indian architecture and holds religious sentiment with it.

Very true!!
A wonderer
Really appreciated! SLOWLY teams are requested to publish authentic Indian art and architecture symbols stamp to represent India. For example, Ancient temples and monuments. India had been a country which had been invaded for a long time and various invaders built their monuments as a symbol of their supremacy. So, these architectures cant be the symbol of real India.

A wonderer: Foreign rulers, over the centuries, tried to annex and rob the country around 200 times, and is also the most invaded land in the history of the world
Shiv....
Very true, there are hundreds of true historical Indian monuments and temples. You should consider those.

Shiv....: Exactly. That's why I sincerely request you and people like us to build pressure on SLOWLY to give into our demands of a stamp-set better representing and reflecting Indian culture. If possible, I request you to take this message to other people too

नमस्ते (Namaste) to all my fellow Indians!🙏🏻 A few months ago, I created the following stamp request:
Despite the considerably large attention it has received (89 upvotes, almost 40 comments), the SLOWLY team has marked my request as "CLOSED" because
(1) They didn't see much scope in this request;
(2) Neither were they able to follow the request well.
I sincerely urge y'all, fellow citizens of India, to get the SLOWLY team at least on the discussion table to hear our plight surrounding this issue, and also to find possible solutions to the problem. You can go about doing so by sending mails to the team expressing your personal plight/concerns regarding this issue, or create seperate posts yourself to draw the team's attention. In doing so, I sincerely request y'all to stay calm, polite and courteous, without resorting to foul or rude language.

Shiro from Slowly Hey this is political shit post, ignore please. All existing stamps are true icons of India. Please don't start including religious monuments. Already there are a lot of communal fascist political forces acting in the society, please do not encourage further.

vts You are a prime example of someone who is so deracinated from his culture and heritage, and from reality, that he can't distinguish between facts and propaganda.

The point raised here is valid... The stamps for India don't represent the vast majority of India! One Mughal and one British stamp would have been understandable but all? Even the Lotus temple isn't a Hindu place of worship! With all due respect I don't think the mods should have overlooked this request if it gained such popularity.

i think they only considered capital cities for all countries, saw a similar post from someone from UK saying all the stamps are of London
P

neha0: Perhaps that's an issue too, but not as serious as one of India. At least the UK stamps depict English culture and architecture, while the Indian stamps depict our oppressed period. That's how subtly narratives are shaped

I totally agree. no stamps related to our ancient and probably the most beautiful temples. they shouldn't forget our civilisation dates back thousands of year old and there are like dozens of temples here which are atleast 1000 years old and some as back as 1500 to 2000. and they are of utmost significance. they are literally temples dedicated to gods, way more significant than a tomb of a mughal ruler who did nothing except for ethnical cleansing of our ancestors.

The past that has happened, it's a part of us now. And it is to be appreciated. And there in lies the beauty of the diverse culture of India.
I don't know on what basis this labelling of 'indigenous' momuments is being done. Learning about our history and various origins is being used to create lines rather than bonding us together. It seems so absurd.
And I am especially curious how the monuments (ones having the stamps) are any 'less Indian', of which we are so proud of that they are part of Indian heritage as they have global standing due to their unreplicable and marvellous architecture, and how they are useless to both the people and Indian architecture.
So I am always in if new ideas are being posted, but for removal of these stamps, the logic is beyond my understanding. I am left utterly dumbfounded that how it is being supported.

yashika22: but i think india got many temples and landmarks which arent shown here, especially if you go to the south of india and they are definetly wayyy more beautiful and historically relevant than a tomb of a ruler. These stamps are just roaming around delhi lmao. india is way more than just delhi. Thats my point and btw accepting ur fate is defeat in itself.
yashika22
Tar.e.sh: That's what I mentioned, I am always in if new ideas are being posted, like the number of ideas for location based stamps have been proposed as above to the already existing set of stamps.
I just don't get the logic of removing them

yashika22: None of the current location stamps depict India and it's culture in it's true manner. Those Mughal and British era monuments weren't built for the benefit of the people of this country (if you know your history well). So, I really don't see why I should be proud of having those monuments in our country, and I don't get why those specific monuments are more Indian than any of our indigenous ones (Temples), that they were chosen to represent the country on stamps.
Think of it this way: you are being associated with, or represented by something that doesn't do justice at depicting you. How'd you feel?
