The district center's modern coat of arms depicts an artificial heraldic figure, a reference to the legendary hypocentaur. The coat of arms of the same name was the family symbol of the Golshansky princes, the first documented owners of Starye Dorogi.
The settlement of Doroga, modern Old Roads, was first mentioned in the documents of the archive of the Chancellery of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, in the 1st book of records of the Lithuanian Metric under 1524, when it passed from Prince Yuri Golshansky to Voivode Vilna, Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Albrecht Gasthold. After the death in 1542 of Stanislav Gashtold, who had no heirs, the Roads passed to the Khodkevichs. Later, the roads were owned by the Olkovichi, Radziwills, and Wittgensteins.
